BURKINA FASO

People's Palace Projects' first project was in Burkina Faso, in collaboration with TiPP and the Atelier-Théâtre Burkinabé (ATB) based in Ougadougou, funded over 3 years by Comic Relief. We worked with our local partner to run annual trainings with ATB, and then create a tour of forum-based performances that addressed issues that affected rural communities in Burkina Faso. The project initiated the process that is still the basis of PPP's work today: we created learning opportunities to share the experiences and expertise from Burkina Faso with artists, social justice agencies, policy makers and audiences in the UK and beyond.

Partners:
Atelier-Théâtre Burkinabé [ATB], Theatre in Prison and Probation [TiPP] Centre, Manchester

Aim:
To build the capacity of ATB to operate as an effective social development agency through the arts.

Main Activities:
PPP worked with our local partner to create a tour of forum-based performances which addressed issues that affected rural communities in Burkina Faso: AIDS/HIV; land reform; women and child rights; etc

Funder:
Comic Relief
